"A Private Dark Age"

Chris Kinsey’s third LP “A Private Dark Age” dives head first into a foreboding and isolating atmosphere, reflecting our world where technology continues to promote individualism, segregating people and preventing genuine contact and connection. Likening this lonely and paranoid mind state to a barren landscape, Kinsey creates a lived-in world that is at times malevolent, and at others melancholic, yearning for the sincere relationships and sense of community that exist beyond the listeners’ reach.

The album was written, recorded and produced in the winter periods of 2024-2025, with the backdrop of the grey barren fields of Oxfordshire serving as the main point of inspiration, both visually and sonically. Kinsey continues to delve into experimental methods of analog recording, this time fusing abstract guitar pedal work, lo-fi recording styles, brash synths and off-kilter sampling to create a cinematic sonic environment that had depth and tactility.

The artwork was shot on the outskirts of Oxford by British film director Bradley Charlton, an Oxford native who was celebrated for his 2022 debut feature film, “Fading Petals”. Kinsey and Charlton have developed a short hand with their references through both film and music.

The album was released through Mod Joe Records on February 13th, 2026.
